Why PUSH?
A message from the Founder of The PUSH For More Jonathan Lego
Hello everyone, I'm Jon, the founder of The PUSH For More. I started this organization to provide opportunities in the community that I didn't have when I was growing up. The foundation of The PUSH For More is based on my experiences as a father and a former law enforcement professional. PUSH stands for Passion, Understanding, Sacrifice, and Hope. Our organization collaborates with youth to help them become successful citizens and make a positive impact on their community. We've noticed a lack of all-inclusive programs for elementary to high school youth in the Maryland Region, so we travel to various locations throughout the area including schools, gymnasiums, libraries, businesses, auditoriums, athletic fields, parks, and recreational facilities. Our aim is to provide youth with a supportive environment where they can build confidence, have fun, and feel empowered. I developed this mission with three main components in mind.
1. Practical mentoring and networking to address family issues and social relationships, encouraging mutual respect. This initiative creates a healthy and safe space for youth, offering them the opportunity to build positive relationships with adults and peers, supporting confidence building, improving self-esteem, and increasing extracurricular involvement.
2. A platform to listen to inspirational stories and podcasts that motivate and inspire. These stories are shared by individuals who have overcome obstacles in their own lives, conveying positive and constructive messages to the mentees. All program participants are presented with opportunities for growth and various avenues for educational and personal development. Instructional training includes one-on-one coaching, expressing feelings, dealing with conflict, practical exercises related to life experiences, and guidance on coping with domestic violence and bullying.
3. The initiative offers athletic training instruction, sporting events, live music, art therapy, barbecues, bus trips to interesting places, and informal gatherings. These events and outings are chaperoned, carefully monitored, and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
